Union J’s Jaymi Hensley joins Hits Radio Pride

Union J’s Jaymi Hensley is joining LGBTQ+ radio station Hits Radio Pride for a series of Saturday afternoons from 2–7pm.

Jaymi’s first show will air this Saturday, playing his favourite tracks and aiming to lift people’s spirits up this December.

Aimed at music-loving 25-45-year olds, the station launched this summer in partnership with The Co-operative Bank as the first dedicated LGBTQ+ radio station in the UK by a major broadcaster.

In addition to music programming, Hits Radio Pride acts as a platform to educate and encourage inclusion and tolerance; working with LGBT+ helpline Switchboard and airing a series funded by the Audio Content Fund about the struggles the community face.

Speaking about his new hosting gig, Jaymi said: “Radio and broadcasting have been such a goal and passion for me since being in the entertainment industry, so I am so excited to be joining the Bauer team and Hits Radio Pride.

“Growing up as a gay teenager I always wished I had somewhere that I could escape to. I think what Hits Radio Pride has achieved is incredible and continues to pave the way for a fully inclusive world.”

Paul Gerrard, Programme Director, Hits Radio, added: “We believe that it’s so important to give the LGBTQ+ community a voice – whether that’s through our presenters, the guests we interview or through our Tough Talks series – so we can’t wait to welcome Jaymi to our Hits Radio Pride family. We know that he’s going to bring his charm, fun and the best music to our Saturdays!”
