Radio appeal raises over £23 million for Myanmar earthquake relief

An emergency appeal for people affected by the earthquake in Myanmar has raised more than £23 million in donations.
The Disasters Emergency Committee campaign, voiced by presenter Myleene Klass, was broadcast across commercial and community radio stations and digital platforms in the UK.
The campaign reached over 233 million impressions, providing listeners with information on how to donate.
It was also backed by other media partners, including ITV and a number of retailers.
The UK Government matched £5 million of public donations, helping the overall total reach its current figure.
The funds are now supporting people in Myanmar with emergency supplies such as clean water, food, medical care and shelter.
Matt Payton, CEO of Radiocentre, said: “Radio stations across the country have provided incredible support for the latest DEC appeal. The British public have responded generously by providing donations that will enable DEC agencies in Myanmar to provide urgent humanitarian aid.”
Saleh Saeed, CEO of the Disasters Emergency Committee, said: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has given to the DEC Myanmar Earthquake Appeal so far and helped us to raise over £20 million. More than a month on from the devastating earthquake in Myanmar, millions of people affected still urgently need support.”
The appeal remains open for donations.
