Radio Tyneside relocates to Newcastle University Students’ Union base

Radio Tyneside is relocating to new studios inside the Newcastle University Students’ Union.
The move follows a search for a suitable new home for the station, which has been broadcasting for nearly 75 years.
Being based within the Students’ Union brings the chance to collaborate more closely with student media volunteers from Newcastle University, the station says.
Station Manager Richard Finch said, “We’ll look at collaborating very closely, what we can offer NUSU and equally important – what opportunities they can offer Radio Tyneside.”
The station says it is planning to begin broadcasting from the new location shortly.
Chairman Dave Nicholson OBE said, “This is a special time for us. Following on from winning Station of the Year at the National Hospital Radio Awards, we are approaching our 75th anniversary and this move marks the beginning of a new chapter in Radio Tyneside’s proud history.”
Radio Tyneside has thanked Newcastle University Students’ Union for their support and also expressed appreciation to everyone who offered help with potential locations over recent months.
The station’s Trustees and volunteer team are now putting a transition plan into action to ensure a smooth and well-managed move.
