The summer begins with live performances from the Neighbourhood Weekender festival, hosted by Jay Lawrence from Monday 9 to Thursday 12 June at 9pm.
Britpop artist Louise Wener, lead singer of Sleeper, will also join the station for four shows in July, sharing her favourite tracks and reflections from the era.
Additional highlights include:
- Coverage of Kendal Calling, with Dan Noble broadcasting from backstage
- A new documentary The Summer of 95, exploring the landmark chart rivalry
- Absolute Radio’s Britpop Summer with Danielle Perry
- A series of Sunday night shows in August revisiting The Best of Tim Burgess’s Listening Party – The Britpop Albums, including Skunk Anansie, Catatonia and Travis, followed by new editions with Cast and Garbage
Dave Berry, Absolute Radio Breakfast Show presenter, said: “What an epic summer this is set to be for those of us whose formative musical years were shaped by the sound of Britpop. Britpop is so much more than just one band and the chance to celebrate this incredible genre should not be missed.”
