Barnsley Radio to launch with focus on local voices and music

A new radio station is launching in Barnsley, promising to bring back local presenters and community-led content to the airwaves.

Barnsley Radio is the latest addition from the team behind Rotherham Radio and Doncaster Radio.

The station aims to serve listeners across the town with hit music, live programming and stories that matter to local people. Bosses say it will be staffed by presenters from the area and will cover news, events and community life specific to Barnsley.

Programme Director Stewart said: “We’ve seen the incredible appetite for local radio in Rotherham and Doncaster. Now it’s Barnsley’s turn. We’re passionate about putting local back on the dial – with shows that sound like Barnsley and talk about what matters here.”

Another new Barnsley radio station was also announced yesterday from the company applying for the town’s small-scale DAB multiplex.
