Basingstoke Community Radio holds six-week radio presenting course

Students from a local college have completed a six-week radio presenting course at Basingstoke Community Radio.

The project forms part of the station’s Beacon Project, which is supported by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and aims to build confidence and communication skills through hands-on broadcasting experience.

Over the course of the programme, they learned how to structure and present radio shows, choose music, and conduct interviews using professional equipment.

David from Basingstoke Community Radio said the students had thrown themselves into the course: “It’s great to see the difference this project makes. They all really came out of their shell and gave the project their all.”

Ann, who supports work experience and careers at Dove House Post-16, said: “It was a truly invaluable experience that helped them develop confidence, social communication and employability skills in a fun, inclusive and supportive setting.”

The Beacon Project is designed to be flexible to meet individual needs and gives participants a chance to explore creative roles in community radio.
