Elaine Paige made a Dame in King’s Birthday Honours list

Elaine Paige has been named a Dame in the King’s Birthday Honours, recognising her decades of contribution to musical theatre and broadcasting.

Known for her work on stage and on air, Elaine has hosted her own BBC Radio 2 show since 2004, focusing on musical theatre and film music.

Helen Thomas, head of Radio 2, said: “I’d like to send huge congratulations from everyone at BBC Radio 2 to our very own broadcasting legend Elaine Paige on becoming a dame in the King’s Birthday Honours list.

“She keeps the nation entertained every Sunday lunchtime with the perfect mix of musical theatre anthems, and this is a truly fitting honour in her 60th year in showbusiness.

“We all know there’s nothing like a dame and now she has the official title to match.”

Other broadcasters also feature in this year’s list.

Martha Kearney, presenter of The World at One on BBC Radio 4, has been appointed CBE for her services to radio and journalism.

Former BBC Radio 2 presenter Claudia Winkleman has been awarded an MBE. Claudia hosted the Saturday morning show and is also well known for her television work.

In hospital and community radio, Neil Stockton has been recognised for his long-term commitment as Chair of Oxford’s Hospital Radio Cherwell. He receives an Honour for services to hospital radio and the wider Oxford community.

Malcolm John Kirby, a volunteer at Red Dot Radio in Edinburgh, is also included in the list for his work supporting patients through hospital radio in the capital.

From Walsall, Nicolette Marie Thomas-Tapper (Nikki Tapper) has been honoured for her contribution to broadcasting and her community work in the West Midlands.

The annual honours celebrate individuals across the UK for their public service and contribution to community life.
