Times Radio wins exclusive Boat Race rights

Times Radio will provide live commentary of the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race after securing exclusive UK radio rights in a three-year partnership.

The agreement makes the station the official radio partner of The Boat Race until 2028 and marks the first time Times Radio has been the official broadcaster of a live sporting event.

Listeners will hear live radio commentary of both the Women’s and Men’s Oxford and Cambridge Boat Races on Saturday 4 April during Easter weekend.

Jane Mulkerrins will host a special live edition of her Saturday afternoon programme from the Putney riverbank between 1pm and 4pm, close to the start of the race on the Championship Course.

Coverage will include guests from the rowing world along with reaction and analysis from the riverbank as the races unfold.

Ahead of the event, the station plans a series of interviews and features with the presidents and crews from both universities to introduce the teams and the stories behind this year’s races.

Programme director Tim Levell said: “We’re proud to partner with The Boat Race in a three-year deal through to 2028. The Boat Race is a brilliant fit for Times Radio and our listeners.”

The partnership also comes as the Women’s Boat Race approaches its centenary in 2027.

Siobhan Cassidy, chair of The Boat Race Company, said the organisers were pleased to confirm Times Radio as the event’s radio partner on a multi-year agreement starting with this year’s race.
