Barry to host Community Radio Now & Next Day

This year’s Community Radio Now & Next Day will take place on Saturday October 26th in Barry, South Wales.

The day, which brings community broadcasters together, is a collaboration between The Radio Hub and the Local Radio Alliance and is hosted by Bro Radio from their studios at the YMCA in Barry.

Event organiser Dom Chambers told RadioToday: “I was lucky enough to go on a tour of community stations earlier in the year in South Wales. I was really impressed with the energy and vibrancy in the stations I visited and felt we could all benefit by throwing the spotlight on Welsh Community Radio.

“We have had excellent feedback from last year’s Now & Next and have been putting a schedule together to inform and inspire those delivering community radio from a business, content and governance point of view. We are planning some great sessions and lots of time to network and catch-up with other broadcasters from far and wide.”

Bro Radio’s Nathan Spackman welcomes the choice of location: “It’s great to be able to work with Radio Hub and the Local Radio Alliance to bring this event to South Wales. We are really excited to learn from Community Stations from across the UK and to show everyone what we and Barry has to offer.”

Presentations for this year include David Harber from Love Andover on marketing your station. Shirley Ludford from Swindon 105 will share her experiences on attracting sponsorship and Nathan is talking about the relationship between radio and local government.

The Community Media Association will give an update on the Small Scale DAB agenda as the Ofcom consultation into how this will be regulated will end on 4th October. The CMA will present the results of their survey which canvasses their members for views to feed into the consultation.

Danny Lawrence said, “As chairman of the Community Media Association and The Radio Hub I am delighted to be working with the Local Radio Alliance in bringing Now & Next to Wales. We have had fantastic conversations over the last year and long may these continue as we all work to improve the opportunities for community radio across the UK. “

Community Radio Now & Next is free to attend but people must register first.
