Signal Radio’s Stoke on Trent building up for sale by Bauer Media Group

Signal 1’s office and studio complex in Stoke-on-Trent is on the market for £600,000.

The building, at 67 to 73 Stoke Road, has been the home of Signal since it launched in 1983, but will be vacated in the new year, with all personnel moving out.

Bauer says the broadcasting team is moving to Birmingham to make sure they have access to the very best technology and resources.

There’s only one local show coming from the building now – the weekday breakfast show with Elliot Holman and Matilda Newthorpe on Signal 1. All the rest of the output is networked as per the rest of the Hits network.

The building has seven dedicated studios as well as a studio for live music recordings, previously used for Signal 2 and networked output for the Wireless Group.

In addition to a price tag of £600,000 estate agent Louis Taylor is offering the building for rent at a cost of £53,500 per annum.

A change of format request in 2020 altered co-location arrangements from ensuring all programmes were made within the licensed area, to locally made programing must be made in the Midlands area.

A Bauer spokesperson told RadioToday: “The Signal broadcast team will be moving from their current building in Stoke-on-Trent to Bauer Media Audio studios in Birmingham sometime in the new year, ensuring that they have equal access to the very best technology and resources.

“This means that the building will then be closed, with the station continuing to provide local news, sport and travel as well as supporting local vulnerable and disadvantaged children through the Cash for Kids charity. The commercial team will also continue to work closely with their local clients and businesses.”
