Rick Jackson returns to Breakfast on the south coast

Rick Jackson is returning to breakfast radio on the south coast as he takes over BBC Radio Solent Breakfast from Alun Newman.

Rick joined BBC Radio Solent in 2025 to present afternoons, following a thirty year career in commercial radio on the South Coast, including most recently at Wave 105 before

He will now front the breakfast programme from Monday 9 March 2026, bringing his regular music quiz The Naked Hit into the new slot.

And if newsreader Michael Coombes continues in the morning slot, it means a Wave reunion for Rick and Michael.

Speaking about the move, Rick said: “This is really exciting – I’m so happy that I will be back on a breakfast show again, championing the area that I love. I can’t wait to entertain our listeners and connect them with the stories, the people and the places of the South.”

Alun Newman will launch a new afternoon show from 2pm to 6pm from Monday 23 March. Katie Martin continues with the daytime programme between 10am and 2pm, including The Rewind at 1pm. Dorset Breakfast, presented by Steve Harris, remains in place from 7am to 9am on Dorset frequencies.

Ian Ramsdale, Executive Editor at BBC Radio Solent, said: “I’m delighted that Rick is joining the Breakfast show. He brings joy and passion to the airwaves and is the perfect person to brighten up the mornings.”

Rick previously began broadcasting on the Isle of Wight aged 17.
