The Jeremy Kyle Breakfast Show under investigation

Ofcom has launched a new investigation into The Jeremy Kyle Breakfast Show on Talk.

The enquiry is focused around the show broadcast on 15 June 2026.

This episode covered several major news and political topics including Sir Keir Starmer and a dispute over defence spending, Nigel Farage’s allegations of discrimination against white people in public services, and Rupert Lowe’s comments about Tommy Robinson potentially joining Restore Britain.

Further details of the investigation have not been revealed at this stage by the regulator.

Also today, Ofcom has announced London ONE Radio has breached three broadcasting rules after explicit music was played during the school summer holidays.

The regulator upheld a complaint about offensive and discriminatory language, along with explicit sexual content, in three songs broadcast during automated daytime programming on 23 July 2026.

The station, which provides predominantly Italian language content for the Italian community, is licensed to International Communication & Services Limited.

Ofcom identified offensive language in Of All People by Foo Fighters at approximately 12.15pm, Potion by Calvin Harris featuring Dua Lipa and Young Thug at 2.12pm, and WAP by Cardi B featuring Megan Thee Stallion at 2.23pm.

The songs contained repeated strong language, including racially discriminatory terms, while WAP also included graphic descriptions of sexual behaviour.

London ONE Radio explained that the songs were broadcast through its automated music rotation, without a presenter selecting or introducing individual tracks.

The broadcaster said the explicit versions had been incorrectly identified as clean versions suitable for daytime broadcasting, describing the incident as “an error in the identification and verification process”.

It acknowledged that the broadcast “did not meet the standards required by the Broadcasting Code” and said there had been no deliberate editorial decision to transmit explicit material.

The regulator noted that no warnings were broadcast before the songs and no subsequent on air apology was provided.

The station has removed the three tracks from daytime rotation and is reviewing its wider music library, including checking actual audio and lyrics rather than relying solely on track information.

Ofcom ruled that London ONE Radio breached Rule 1.3 on protecting children through appropriate scheduling, Rule 1.14 on broadcasting the most offensive language, and Rule 2.3 on generally accepted standards.

Meanwhile, five radio licensees could face statutory sanctions after Ofcom found they had failed to pay their annual licence fees.

The regulator has ruled that five radio companies breached Conditions 3(1) and 3(2) of their broadcasting licences, with the failures considered serious enough to warrant further regulatory consideration.

The broadcasters involved are Norgate Limited, which operates Sunshine Radio (FM), North West Student and Youth Community Radio Limited, responsible for Coast FM, Radio Khushkhabri Ltd, Sunshine FM Limited and Ujima Radio CIC.

Sunshine FM Limited holds two licences for Sunshine Radio in Herefordshire and Monmouthshire, both of which are included in Ofcom’s findings.

The regulator says its initial view is that all five non-payment cases are serious and should be considered for statutory sanctions, although this assessment will be reviewed during the sanctions process.

A sixth radio licensee, Ribble FM C.I.C., was also found in breach after failing to pay its annual licence fee by the required deadline.

Ribble FM subsequently made payment after receiving Ofcom’s Preliminary View, but the regulator still found it in breach of Condition 3(2), which requires licence fees to be paid on time.

Ofcom describes non-payment as a “significant and fundamental breach of a broadcast licence” because it can affect its ability to carry out its regulatory responsibilities.

Finally, an investigation has been launched regarding Coast FM (Coleraine), about content broadcast on 1 September 2026.
