BBC Radio Wales hosts archive special for Merthyr launch

Merthyr Tydfil’s Central Library will officially open its own Wales Broadcast Archive “Clip Corner” in June, giving local residents access to rare radio and television clips from across Welsh broadcasting history.

To mark the opening, BBC Radio Wales is teaming up with the National Library of Wales to present a Rewind Archive Special on 10 June.

The free event, held at The College Merthyr’s atrium, will feature presenter Lucy Owen, with guests including Owen Money, Roy Noble and Aleighcia Scott (pictured). It will combine archive clips and conversation celebrating Welsh radio and TV.

The Rewind Archive Special will also be recorded and broadcast on BBC Radio Wales.

Dr Rhodri Llwyd Morgan from the National Library of Wales said the new viewing station is “an important step in making our national broadcast heritage accessible to more communities.”

Carolyn Hitt from BBC Radio Wales said the event would explore how “stories we’ve told over the decades are part of the fabric of Wales.”

The Clip Corner rollout is part of the wider Wales Broadcast Archive project, a collaboration between the National Library of Wales, BBC Cymru Wales, ITV Cymru Wales and S4C.
