kmfm invites listeners to choose new Kent station

kmfm is asking listeners to choose between four potential new radio stations as it prepares to mark three decades of broadcasting in Kent.
The station has launched a survey asking people which music formats they would most like to hear, with the possibility of more local radio services being introduced across the county in 2027.
Listeners can vote for Kent’s Dance Anthems, featuring dance music from past decades to the present, or Kent’s All Time Hits, offering songs from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
The other options are Kent’s All New Music, focusing on new releases, and Kent’s Biggest Rock, featuring stadium rock music.
kmfm says the proposed services could combine their chosen music formats with local news, travel information, community events, advertising from local businesses and familiar presenters.
The consultation comes ahead of the 30th anniversary of three stations which originally launched independently in September 1997 before becoming part of the KM Group and eventually joining the kmfm network.
Medway FM launched on 1 September 1997 and later became kmfm Medway, while 106 CTFM started broadcasting in Canterbury on 21 September.
Neptune Radio followed on 29 September 1997, eventually becoming kmfm Shepway and White Cliffs Country.
The stations subsequently became part of the wider kmfm network, which continues to operate as a local commercial radio service covering Kent.
The survey is intended to help the broadcaster understand which types of music and radio formats listeners would like to hear more of, although no decision has been announced about which, if any, of the proposed stations will launch.
Listeners taking part can also enter a prize draw for one of seven £50 Amazon gift cards.
Voting is available via website.
