BOOM ’66 to air on DAB across West of England

Small scale DAB multiplex operators in the West of England are joining forces to broadcast BOOM ’66, a pop-up station from Boom Radio, across the region for one day only on 30th July.

The station will mark the 60th anniversary of England’s 1966 World Cup win, reaching listeners in Bristol, Bath, South Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Swindon and along the M4 and M5 motorways.

Each participating multiplex is locally owned and works closely with community radio stations in its area.

Muxnet UK, which provides technical support to these multiplexes, played a key role in coordinating the broadcast.

Nick Piggott from Muxnet UK said they are eager to help multiplex operators offer event and short-term services, describing it as a digital version of Restricted Service Licences.

Nick noted that BOOM ’66 follows the recent broadcast of Radio WOMAD, which aired for four days during the WOMAD festival across Bath, Wiltshire and Swindon.

The multiplexes involved include Bristol Digital Radio and Severnside Digital Radio in Greater Bristol, South Glos Digital Radio, Bath Digital Radio, Community Radio Swindon, and West Wiltshire Digital Radio.

Lead community radio stations in each area are supporting the project, including Ujima Radio, BCfm Radio, Bradley Stoke Radio, Thornbury Radio, Somer Valley Radio, Swindon 105, WCR Warminster and Fantasy Radio.
