Global launches Classic FM Christmas radio station

Global has launched a new station playing classical Christmas music, while Smooth Christmas returns for the festive season.

Classic FM Christmas is the broadcaster’s first dedicated Christmas classical music station, featuring traditional carols, orchestral and choral music, alongside scores from festive films including Home Alone and Love Actually.

A video to promote the station shows Aled Jones sitting inside a block of ice and being thawed out just in time to sing his Christmas song, Walking in the Air.

The station joins Smooth Christmas, which is back with a continuous selection of seasonal songs, including Elton John’s Step Into Christmas and Whitney Houston’s Do You Hear What I Hear?

Both stations are available through Global Player, the official Classic FM app, online and via smart speakers, with DAB+ coverage in Greater London.

Classic FM Managing Editor Joseph Zubier said: “Christmas and classical music are a perfect match, so launching Classic FM Christmas for the very first time is the most natural next step for our brand.”

Managing Director Sally Ardis said of Smooth Christmas: “There’s nothing quite like the first Christmas song of the year to get you into the festive spirit.”
