Mike Walsh announces departure from Radio X

Radio X Head of Music and Deputy Programme Director Mike Walsh is leaving the station later this month, after 18 years with the same company.

Mike has been involved with the XFM/Radio X brand for many years, after joining the Capital Radio Group in 2001 as Head of Music for Century and XFM. He stayed with the firm through its merger with GWR to become GCap and then the sale to Global. Before radio he worked in promotions in the music industry.

In an email to staff and on his Twitter account, Mike said: “It has been a pleasure and a privilege working with some of the best people I know but, after 18 years, it is definitely time for a break and something new. XFM and Radio X have been the most amount of fun and I am so proud to say that I’ll be leaving it in great shape with some record numbers and an excellent team in place.Thank you to all the artists, industry and friends for always being an inspiration – see you soon for the next chapter.”

A Global spokesperson told RadioToday: “After 18 years as head of music and deputy at Radio X, and before that Xfm, Mike Walsh will be leaving Global later this month. Mike has been a core part of Radio X, and before that Xfm, and he leaves us by mutual agreement. We’d like to thank him for his amazing work over his time at Global and wish him the very best for the future.”
