Tina Daheley to leave BBC Radio 2 breakfast news

Tina Daheley is stepping away from Radio 2 Breakfast after more than seven years.

Tina confirmed the move in a post on Instagram, saying her run on the BBC Radio 2 breakfast show is coming to an end after years of early starts.

She said: “After more than 7 years of early alarm calls on Radio 2, I’m stepping away from Radio 2 Breakfast.”

The broadcaster reflected on her time reading the news in the morning slot, describing it as one of the greatest privileges of her life.

Tina said her breakfast run at Radio 2 followed earlier roles on 1Xtra and Radio 1, where she worked on Trevor Nelson’s Breakfast Show before moving into a decade of broadcasting on Radio 1.

She added that, after 18 years and six breakfast shows, she is looking forward to a lie in.

Tina also wished Sara Cox and her team luck ahead of the new Radio 2 Breakfast Show, saying she will listen while doing the school run.

She is not leaving Radio 2, and said listeners will (continue to) hear her between 12-2pm when Jeremy Vine is away. She also said she will be seen on BBC One after the summer.

Zoey Ball replied to the news on Instagram, saying: “Love you Tina. Class act darling girl. I can highly recommend the later start to your day.”
