Matt Edmondson and Mollie King launch real-time whodunit podcast

Matt Edmondson and Mollie King are launching a new comedy crime podcast where they invite audiences to help shape the ending.

The Radio 1 presenters will co-host Matt and Mollie’s Novel Idea, a weekly series where each writes the next chapter of the same murder mystery without planning the plot together.

The story follows Detective Ian Chalk, whose investigation grows increasingly chaotic as the series unfolds.

The podcast is narrated by Steffan Powell, known for Doctor Who Unleashed, BBC Radio 2 and 5Live.

Matt described the unusual format: “The phrase ‘two heads are better than one’ needs a rethink. Never before in the history of literature has an author written a whodunnit and not known whodidit.”

Mollie added that the experience has been emotionally intense, joking that their differing visions of crime and romance have caused both joy and chaos.

Novel Idea is a Matt & Mollie Production with new episodes each Wednesday. The first one will be released on 4th March across major podcast platforms.

Each instalment builds directly on the last, with no spoilers or vetoes, giving fans a chance to influence the final chapter of the mystery.
