Former radio MD Andy Carter becomes Warrington South MP

Former radio MD Andy Carter has become the MP for Warrington South after the Conservatives win over Labour in the constituency.

The Conservatives and Andy Carter received 28,187 votes, a share of 45.5%, compared with Labour and Faisal Rashid getting 26,177 votes, a share of 42.3%.

In radio, Andy was most recently Group Managing Director for GMG Radio before Global/Communicorp completed the deals to buy the company in 2014. He then had a change in career, managing a family business and running his own consultancy, and more recently got involved in politics.

In March 2019, Andy was selected as the Parliamentary Candidate for the marginal Warrington South constituency.

His radio work included Managing Director for Trax FM, Regional MD at Radio Investments, numerous roles for GMG Radio at Real and Smooth and finally Group Managing Director for Real and Smooth Ltd.

In addition, former BBC Radio Solent, Radio Plymouth and Radio Exe presenter Simon Jupp won his seat in East Devon for the Conservatives, whilst former pirate Roger Gale retains his for North Thanet (Margate, Herne Bay and The Villages).
